Welcome Speech

Greetings and a warm welcome to the 2nd Malang International Conference on Herbs and Toxicants (MIC-HT)!

On behalf of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Islam Malang, it is my great honor to welcome all of you to this prestigious event. Whether you are joining us in person or virtually, we are thrilled to have you be a part of this meaningful and dynamic conference.

Pollution is one of the main problems in Indonesia and is known to have major consequences for health. Several recent studies have shown contamination by microplastic pollutants, pesticides, endocrine disrupting compounds, and heavy metals in waters in various regions in Indonesia. High levels of pollutants and toxicants in water have been widely studied and are known to have an impact on human health and are known to be a factor in the occurrence of degenerative diseases, increasing the morbidity, mortality and health burden in Indonesia.

The MIC-HT serves as an important platform for experts, researchers, practitioners, and students from around the world to come together and share their knowledge, research, and ideas on two critical areas: the risks posed by toxicants, and the potential of herbs to mitigate it. Scientists who have long worked researching pollutants can provide insight to health practitioners to increase awareness of the cleanliness of the surrounding environment (especially in waters) in relation to disease prevention, early detection in areas that have a high risk of pollutant contamination, and increasing social awareness of health problems due to toxicity. Our goal is to create a space for the exchange of innovative thoughts, scientific insights, and practical solutions that can help us address the growing health challenges associated with both natural remedies and environmental toxins.

This conference features a diverse range of topics, from the benefits and applications of herbal medicine to the latest research in toxicology. Over the course of the event, we are privileged to host distinguished keynote speakers and experts from various multidisciplines who will provide valuable perspectives, present cutting-edge research, and lead discussions on how we can navigate the complexities of these fields.

Our sessions, workshops, and poster presentations are designed to foster collaboration and spark new ideas. We encourage all participants to engage actively, ask questions, and contribute to the rich discussions that will unfold. This is an incredible opportunity for all of us to expand our knowledge, build connections, and explore new possibilities in the fields of herbal medicine and toxicology.

In addition to the academic program, we are pleased to offer our participants a glimpse of the cultural and natural beauty of Malang through special tours and experiences. We hope you find time to enjoy the charm of our city, and we trust that your stay here will be both professionally rewarding and personally enjoyable.
